Your Vitamins Could be KILLING you! - Article #3

Did you know that the synthetic vitamins you take everyday may be killing you? Nutrients that are synthetically made in most multivitamins can be toxic over time.  Vitamins such as Vitamin C and beta-carotene are not found alone in nature.  Vitamin C, for instance is usually in the form of ascorbic acid in vitamin supplements and multivitamins.  In fact there are eight (8) components of vitamin C and ascorbic acid is only one of the eight. Nature made fruits and vegetables with eight components of Vitamin C for a reason.  They all work together, synergistically to ensure good absorption and utilization by our bodies’ cells.

Another good example is beta-carotene. Almost all of the beta-carotene available to buy in supplement form is an isolated synthetic compound made from acetylene gas. Beta-carotene is part of a family of anti-oxidants called carotenoids. It is never found alone in nature. For example, carrots and tomatoes have alpha-carotene, beta-carotene, cantozantheen, gamma-carotene, omega-carotene, etc. And although beta-carotene is a great antioxidant, cantozantheen is already known to be even more effective as an antioxidant. Therefore by isolating beta-carotene from its entire family of carotenoids the even more beneficial antioxidant has been eradicated.

The problem with synthetically made multivitamins is that not only do they lack the important co-factors that go along with each nutrient, but they are also not absorbed very well by the human body.  At most, we can absorb up to 30% of what we ingest in synthetic nutrients.  So what happens to the other 70% of nutrients not absorbed?  In fact, our bodies need to detoxify and get rid of the extras in our stool, urine and sweat.  Ever notice how your urine may be extra bright after taking some B vitamins or synthetic multivitamins?  This is the extra waste and byproduct that your body has to eliminate.

Our bodies have enough toxins to worry about everyday from our environment.  Our air, food and water is laden with extra chemicals, pesticides and environmental toxins.  Why would we want to add more of a burden for our bodies to deal with in the form of a multivitamin that we may not even be able to break down and digest properly?  Thankfully there is a better alternative to synthetic nutrients.  They are called 100% whole food multi-nutrients and they are found in select nutritional supplements.

It is very difficult to get all the nutrients we need from food.  Our soils have been depleted from over-farming for years.  This means we would need to consume four to five times the amount of food as usual in order to get all the nutrients required in a day.

The next time you look at your multivitamin, check to see if states 100% WHOLE FOOD on it.  Likely it does not, and for the above mentioned reasons you may want to think twice about its benefits.
